The Oakland Raiders will break camp this week from Napa Valley and return home to Alameda before hitting the road once again in Week 3 of the preseason to host the Green Bay Packers at IG Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. PT as the two clubs collide for what will be the first NFL contest in Canada since 2013. The Raiders currently hold a 6-5 lead on the overall preseason series against the Packers and this will mark the fourth time in the last six preseasons that the two teams will square off against each other.
In last week’s contest, the team captured their second exhibition vic- tory, moving to 2-0, as they defeated the Arizona Cardinals by a score of 33-26. The first-team offense took the stage for the first time this preseason and marched 75 yards down the field in six plays on the opening drive, culminating in a 13-yard TD pass from QB Derek Carr to WR Ryan Grant. On the drive, rookie first-round RB Josh Jacobs also made his preseason debut and carried the ball four times for 21 yards (5.3 avg.) behind a stout offensive line that included Raiders de- buts from T Trent Brown and G Richie Incognito. The first-team defense also took the field and was highlighted by strong performances from S Lamarcus Joyner and LB Brandon Marshall, both of whom registered sacks including a second-quarter safety by Joyner.
The Packers and Raiders meet for the 12th time in the preseason Thursday night, and they’ll face Oakland in the regular season on Oct. 20. The teams first met in Super Bowl II, when the Packers won 33-14 and became back-to-back Super Bowl champions.
In their last preseason meeting on Aug. 24, 2018 in Oakland, the Raiders won 13-6, with the Packers’ only points coming from two field goals by Mason Crosby.According to Packers.com, the regular-season series started in 1972, with the Raiders winning each of the first five matchups. The Packers earned their first victory over the Raiders in 1990, and haven’t lost since — outscoring the Raiders 240-90.The Green Bay Packers last met the Oakland Raiders in the regular season on Dec. 20, 2015 at Oakland Coliseum. The Packers won 30-20.
The Green Bay Packers close the presason at Lambeau Field on Thursday, Aug. 29, hosting the Kansas City Chiefs.
